Longshot Attfield Nails Schwarzenegger On The Line For Debut Win

ATTFIELD (c, 2, Vekoma–Graceful Witch, by Street Boss), the third longest shot on the board at 23-1, sprung the upset Friday in his career debut. Patiently handled early as 3-5 favorite Schwarzenegger (Not This Time) said “hasta la vista baby” to the field and opened up a sizeable advantage, Attfield split the group in fourth while making steady progress along the inside. With a quarter mile to run and the favorite still well clear but drifting out into the center of the course, Dylan  Davis kept riding aboard this longshot and loomed at the sixteenth pole, coming with every stride. Schwarzenegger re-engaged but it was too late as Attfield snuck by on the rail for the upset win by a head. From the second crop of successful young sire Vekmoa, Attfield's only younger sibling is a yearling half-sister by Mendelssohn. Graceful Witch was empty to Volatile last year but was covered by Newgate for 2026. Sales History: $75,000 Wlg '23 KEENOV; $220,000 Ylg '24 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $55,000.
